PE/Sport

Welcome to our PE and sports page! This page will keep you informed about fun sporting things we are doing in school, what we're doing in PE or sporting matches and tournaments that we participate in.

Dance club

The dance club has started again for years 5 and 6. They learn a series of dances over the 6 weeks and it is delivered by a professional dance tutor. Each year group will get the opportunity over the year to attend the club too.

Hockey league

A mixed team of year 5 and 6 boys and girls competed in the hockey league at Broughton High School over the last 2 Tuesdays. They competed very well in the permier league and represented the school superbly.

Kids Cup Football Champions!

On Thursday 3rd October a team of year 6 boys went to Play Football to compete in the Preston Schools Kids Cup. A total of 38 schools entered the tournament. We came through an extremely tough group, winning 5 out of 5 matches to progress to the knockout stages. In the quarter finals we came from 3-1 down with 2 minutes to go to battle back to draw 3-3 versus Fulwood and Cadley. We eventually won this game on penalties.  We then played in a final round robin with Queens Drive and Sherwood. We progressed to the final game versus Sherwood needing a win to lift the trophy and were triumphant 2-1. The boys played superbly as a team and showed trememdous resilience and togetherness. We now progress to the regional finals where we play the best teams from South Ribble and Chorley for the opportuinty to represent Preston North End at the Northern Regional Finals. Well done boys!

Hockey tournament at Broughton High School

A mixed team of year 5 and 6 children went to Broughton High School to compete in the Preston Schools' Hockey Tournament. The children played very well and played with great team spirit. Unfortunately, the children didn't progress past a very tough group but they represented the school superbly.

Gymnastics competition

Mr Woodruff took 3 girls from years 5 and 6 to Preston City Gymnastics Club for the annual schools gymnastics competition. The girls had been learning their floor routine in school and performed it superbly on the day. They also performed a vault exercise. They did really well, behaved excellently and represented the school extremely well. They also thoroughly enjoyed playing in the ball pits and on all the equipment that the club had to offer in between our routines!

Taekwondo taster day

Towards the end of the first half term we had a champion Taekwondo instructor in school to give taster sessions to each class. He taught the child basic moves and they really enjoyed it. They learned the necessary noises to accompany each move too!

Dance club for years 1 and 2

The dance club on a Friday morning before school has now turned to years 1 and 2. There has been a fantastic turnout and the children have been really enthusiastic. We are looking forward to seeing the final dance routine being performed!

NSPCC sponsored dance

Each class participated in a sponsored dance for 30 minutes on behalf of the NSPCC. The children really enjoyed it and demonstrated some great moves - all for a good cause too!

Danone Nations Cup

As a result of wining the Preston Kids' Cup in October, we won the right to represent Preston at the Danone Nations Cup Lancashire Heat at Fleetwood Town's Academy. We played against 17 other schools from the other boroughs in Lancashire. We qualified from our group unbeaten and progressed to the knock out stages. After a very close quarter final which ended in a 1-1 draw we went to the dreaded penalties. It was still even after our alloted kicks so it went to sudden death. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be this time and we were knocked out in the cruelest way. The team who knocked us out did go on to win the tournament. The day proved to be a great experience for the boys and it was a great opportunity for them to play there.

Year 6 Fencing classes

Yera 6 are part way through a fencing course delivered by a professional fencing coach. They have learned the basic  moves and skills of fencing. We have some very promising fencers and I hope that some go on to continue with the sport.
