PSHE / RSHE
As part of your child's educational experience at Cottam Primary School, we aim to promote personal well-being and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education that gives our children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives both now and in the future. The Department for Education has made changes to the Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) part of the PSHE programme and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements.

Our RSHE programme is an integral part of our whole school PSHE educational provision. We will ensure the needs of all our pupils are met through ongoing and rigorous review and monitoring. Our programme will be delivered through a range of teaching methods and interactive activities.
Organisation of the PSHE / RSHE Curriculum
As a school we have the flexibility to deliver content in a way that is age and developmentally appropriate and sensitive to the needs and religious and cultural backgrounds of our children and families. We will continue to work closely with the PSHE Association to support us.
The PSHE curriculum will be based on three core themes:
|Core Theme 1||Core Theme 2||Core Theme 3|
|Health and Wellbeing||Relationships||Living in the Wider World|
We will be using a thematic approach, covering all the three core themes over the school year, with three topics per half term. This approach allows different year groups to work on similar themes at the same time, building a spiral programme year on year.
We will be using a scheme of work called 1Decision to support in the delivery of this curriculum.
