Year 6 Statutory Assessment Tests

At the end of Year 6, children take statutory national tests, often referred to as SATs. These assessments take place in May and cover Reading, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, and Mathematics.

The tests provide a snapshot of what children know and can do at the end of Key Stage 2 and help schools to understand each child’s attainment and progress. We want children to approach the assessments with confidence, but we also recognise that they are just one part of their learning journey.

Throughout Year 6, we will support children to prepare through their normal lessons, opportunities to practise key skills and targeted support where needed. Our priority is always to ensure children feel confident, supported and ready to do their very best.
