20th November 2025 - Trip to the mosque
Year 3 had a great visit to the Quwwat ul Islam Mosque in Preston today. First, we were shown the area where Muslims wash before praying and some children even got the chance to have a go at washing their hands, feet and face as Muslims would! After that, we visited the Prayer Hall where we learned about the Qu'ran and were fortunate enough to listen to part of the Qu'ran being recited. Next, the children had the opportunity to try on some of the special clothing worn by Muslims and have a go at puzzles which, when completed, showed some special buildings. Finally, we went upstairs to visit the classroom where Muslims do some of their learning.
All of the Year 3 children were very respectful, polite and sensible. We are very proud of them all. Well done Year 3!
26th September 2025 European Languages Day
Year 3 had a great day celebrating European Languages Day. We all came to school wearing colours to represent the French flag or the flag of our own country. There was a special assembly in which we talked about why we celebrate European Languages Day and we found out that there are over 200 languages spoken in Europe! Everyone in the assembly joined in together to sing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes all in French. Well done everyone. We are so proud that you can sing in French! Back in class, we learned about Georges Seurat, a French artist, who developed a wonderful technique called Pointillism. We were all excited to create our own paintings using Pointillism and the resulting pictures were brilliant. After lunch, we studied a map of Europe and identified the location of England and France. We also pointed out the countries which border France. In addition, we learned some French greetings and practised saying how we are. As the day was nearly over, we celebrated further by eating pain au chocolat and were fortunate to have the chance to learn some Bulgarian words from our special visitor. Well done Year 3!
