Year 1 Steve Irwin
Welcome to Year 1
Autumn 2nd Half Term
We cannot believe that we are almost at the end of the Autumn term!
It has been another busy half term filled with lots of exciting things, from Nativity rehearsals to theatre shows and panto's! The children have certainly 'worked their socks off!' and are more than ready for the rest.
In English we have explored the story 'George and the Dragon' and practised writing our own versions. We will be spending some time on poetry over the last few days.
In Maths we continued our work on number facts and have practised adding and subtracting numbers using counters and number lines for support.
In R.E. we discussed why babies were important, learnt about the Nativity story and talked about what was important to us.
Our favourite part of the half term was our Art lessons! The children have been engrossed in our art lessons, learning different collage skills, sketching dragon's eyes and creating sculptures of our drawings using clay. Take a look at some of our work on the Gallery page.
We have lots of exciting learning planned for the Spring term which we can't wait to share with the children once we are back.
Autumn 1st Half Term
Wow, what a busy first half term! From celebrating European Day of Languages, showing 'Racism the Red card' and Black History month to developing our sewing skills to design and make a puppet and even a trip to Blackpool Zoo! We have had so much fun.
Check out some of the photos showing what we have been up to in the gallery.
The children have learnt lots about the place value of numbers up to 10 and have continued to develop their recall of number facts, including '5 and a bit'. We have practised thinking of and saying sentences and used our phonics to help record these in writing.
The start of Autumn 2 is almost upon with lots more exciting things planned, including our Nativity production!
