Year 1 Steve Irwin
Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back!
The children have settled well into Year 1 and have spent the first few days becoming more familiar with their new classroom and routines. They have thoroughly enjoyed sailing in the 'book boats' whilst enjoying a story or two!
We have an exciting year planned with lots of things to explore and learn. We can't wait to watch your children grow over the coming months!
A few things to remember:
- P.E. days this half term will be Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure full P.E. kit is worn for these days.
- Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays. Please remind your child to change their book on these days (we will also remind them once they arrive at school).
Homework
To support our phonic and reading lessons in school we have an expectation that children read at least five times per week. We ask that children read and reread the same text several times to enable them to develop fluency and better comprehension. When first reading a text, a focus is placed on using phonetic skills to work out words rather than understanding what is written. On a second read, children should find it easier to read or work out unknown words and focus more on understanding what they are reading.
