Spellings
Spellings are a great way to improve and extend our vocabulary, so as well as learning to spell new words, we should also learn what they mean and use them within our writing. Each week's spellings will be posted on Seesaw, so make sure you have your login at home.
Here are all the statutory spellings - ones the 2014 Curriculum say Year 5 and 6 have to learn. These will be covered across the year as well as a range of spellings to help develop the children's use of spelling rules, prefixes and suffixes.
Here are some strategies that can help you learn your spellings at home. However, use whatever helps you - rearrange scrabble tiles, play hangman, write all the letters on cards and play 'cross the river' by standing on the right letters to spell a given word, type your spelling words out ten times each - how fast can you get? There are lots of practical ways that can make learning spellings more fun and hopefully memorable after the spelling test.
